Milena Bonifacini - GLStrand

Yesterday I saw an installation by the danish artist Milena Bonifacini (b. 1963) that inspired me a lot. She exhibited at the gallery Gl. Strand in Copenhagen in a separated room that is often used for total installations.

She has filled a room that simulates a dining-room with found objects and colorful, abstract sculptures made out of papmaché in an orange/pink/ocher-color-palette. The sculptures balance between recognizable forms like spoons, jars and vases and abstract shapes that makes me think of lumps, snakes and flesh. Some which also reminds me of the  piece Fillette (1968) made by the french artist Louise bourgeois.

The room creates tho contrasting atmospheres: a mix of this homey, comfortable feeling and an uncomfortable feeling generated by the bodily unidentifiable forms.
For me, it becomes a psychological space that opens up for a bodily connection with the tactile elements that affects your senses. It activates associations and makes it clear that the contact with the viewer is an important part of the art piece.

The colorful big-scale installation offers a memorable and entertaining experience.
